. | Achieving high quality results processing resumes at lower operating costs.
Human Resource departments know the value of converting Resumes to machine-readable documents. With online access to the contents of a candidates job history, HR can use automated tools to match key accomplishments found on a candidates resume with current job openings. To expedite the Resume conversion process, companies turn to Service Bureaus such as ScanCenters of America (SCA) for help. Instead of data entering each resume, SCA converts the paper to data via a proprietary imaging process. Headquartered in Burlington MA, with multiple locations nationally, SCA is a fast growing, full service data conversion company that provides scanning, indexing/coding, OCR/ICR, key entry, and output to a variety of media on documents that range from paper documents to Aperture Cards and Large Format Drawings. One of SCAs fastest growing applications is converting resumes into electronic text. SCA has put in place a dedicated image process in all of their facilities that can scan, OCR, verify, and export millions of resumes. SCA uses a combination of high speed scanners, dedicated OCR servers, and multiple OCR verification stations. OCR is performed by the PrimeOCR "voting" engine from Prime Recognition. The PrimeOCR servers are NT based, using a 5 engine version of PrimeOCR that also supports multi-processing. The verification software used, PrimeProof, is also from Prime Recognition. SCA uses features in PrimeProof that ensure quality control and data integrity. Custom workflow software, jointly designed by both companies and developed by Prime Recognition, combines each step in the conversion process. "Our ability to create a superior quality service at a competitive price point was due in great measure to Prime Recognition," says Douglas Thompson, Vice President of Technology for SCA. The "Voting" OCR technology within PrimeOCR gave SCA the character accuracy rates they needed to achieve high quality results at low cost. "Prime Recognition gives us a much cleaner document, before verification, than most [OCR] packages do after verification," Mr. Thompson continued. "Using custom software around the generic engine, we have been able to reduce the amount of human interaction (and therefore cost) from the process. We can now offer a far superior quality product than our competitors at the same price point." For companies like SCA, PrimeOCRs 65% to 80% fewer errors than conventional OCR made the difference.
