Prime Recognition Announces PrimeOCR Version 2.6

April 15, 1997 - New York, NY - Prime Recognition announced today at AIIM’97, the availability of PrimeOCR version 2.6. This latest release of Prime Recognition’s “Voting” OCR technology adds new options that facilitate high accuracy OCR in production imaging environments.

New PrimeOCR version 2.6 features:

  • Rich Text Format (RTF) Support - In addition to standard and formatted ASCII output, PrimeOCR now supports RTF output of OCR results. RTF output retains the look and feel of the original image and is supported by numerous word processors such as MS Word? and WordPerfect?. Now PrimeOCR offers high accuracy OCR and superior page formatting in a single package!

  • Automatic Image Rotation - Images that are not submitted to PrimeOCR in an upright text orientation will now be rotated to their proper position automatically. Users no longer have to worry about those images scanned in landscape or even upside down. PrimeOCR will correct them automatically, before performing OCR, using technology that is much more accurate than current auto-rotation techniques.

  • Graphic Export - PrimeOCR normally ignores graphics (e.g., pictures) found on an image. It can instead be instructed to save any graphic to a file. A path to the graphic is added to the text output for later page reconstruction. This feature is especially useful when combined with PrimeOCR’s RTF output format.

In addition, Prime Recognition’s graphical interface to PrimeOCR for end-users, PrimeProof, has been upgraded to support all of the PrimeOCR version 2.6 features. PrimeProof version 2.6 also includes a number of productivity improvements such multi-page scrolling, shortcut keys for selecting zone content restrictions, ability to automatically move bad images into an exception directory, text insertion tables, and an auto-processing feature that performs user specified file I/O commands (e. g., save/delete file, export results, open next file) at predefined stages during verification.

Higher OCR Accuracy through “Voting” Technology

Developed for the production OCR marketplace, PrimeOCR is an “omnifont” Windows™ NT/2000/XP based software OCR engine and Application Programming Interface (API) toolkit. Using a combination of proprietary “Voting” algorithms and technology licensed from the best retail OCR vendors, PrimeOCR is able to reduce OCR errors by an average of 65-80% over the best conventional OCR products. This reduces the cost of labor and workstations associated with manual error correction by 65-80%. Since manual error correction can account for over 50% of the annual imaging system cost in OCR-intensive applications, installations that use PrimeOCR can achieve annual cost savings of 35%.

Prime Recognition, Inc.

Prime Recognition designs and develops advanced character recognition software for the production OCR marketplace. Prime Recognition’s goal is to facilitate the acceptance of OCR by reducing errors through the use of sophisticated “Voting” technology.
